Dr Simon Brooke-Taylor
Director and Principal Consultant

Simon has a BSc in Biochemistry (Toxicology) and PhD in Toxicology from the University of Surrey and over twenty five years experience in technical and production roles in the food sector.

Simon spent his first 10 years in the industry as a production brewer, first with Bass PLC (at the time the largest brewer in the UK), before to a new boutique brewery,Eagle Hawk Hill Brewery Company, in Canberra in 1987. SImon is a Master Brewer Member of the Institute of Brewing & Distilling and one of only two brewers in the Asia Pacific Region accreditied to train brewers to sit the Institute General Certificate and Diploma exams.

In 1990, Simon joined the Commonwealth Department of Health as a Senior Toxicologist , moving to the National Food Authority on its establishment in 1991. From 1991 - end 2000, Simon held a variety senior positions with the NFA and its successor the Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA), including Principal Toxicologist, Director of Food Science and Safety and Program Manager for Food Product Standards. As the Program Manager for Food Product Standards, he had responsibility for and a leading policy and technical role in the development of the new joint Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. During this time, Simon also participated in the development of international food standards, including leading the Australian delegation at meetings of Codex committees and serving as rapporteur to the Codex Committee on Food Additives and Contaminants.

Simon established Brooke-Taylor & Co in Jan 2001 to provide specialist consultancy services in regulatory affairs, toxicology, food safety and compliance to the food sector.
